Art lovers of all ages are flocking to the Hampton’s to not only get one of kind pieces from arts greatest masters, but to also immerse themselves in the lifestyle. During the 20th century New York was a hotbed for artists and musician. They treated the Hampton’s like their own personal paradise and now New York Magazine has put together the best spots to immerse you in art. Here are GM Northeast’s favorite spots for an weekend itinerary that would make even the most brooding artist happy.
Stay: Start your weekend off by making reservations at The Maidstone, a reinvented 150 year old bed and breakfast chalk full of charm. Whether you’re just looking for a place to lay your head, or are interested in their “Paddling Fun Weekend Offer” you’re sure to enjoy the Swedish owned hotel whose décor is inspired by the likes of Alfred Nobel and Edvard Munch.
Eat: While the Hampton’s offers a plethora of exciting restaurants and eateries there’s nothing like biting into a crisp grilled cheese sandwich to take us back to our childhood. But now that you’ve grown up, restaurants like Little Red have elevated the classic sandwich to match your adult palate. Ditching the typical sliced Wonder bread and American cheese, Little Red creates a decadent sandwich filed with brie, slow-roasted duck, braised cabbage, and Dijon that comes with a glass of one of their local wines. The art lover in you will love getting lost in Mark Humphrey’s abstract paintings that adorn the interior of the restaurant. If you like them just wonder down to his gallery on Main Street to hang a memory at home!
Do: Of course your weekend should center on your love of the art, and the Hampton’s are surely not lacking on galleries. If you find yourself in love with the colorful prints of Andy Warhol then look no further than Gallery Valentine where a burgeoning secondary-market has emerged for his work. Perhaps you’ve fallen in love with the local artists and their influences; LOCAL 87 is nearby showcasing all of the local talent.
