In true baking fashion, a dozen local bloggers and event planners joined us for our Pittsburgh Chevy Sonic Sweets Tour on November 15. The tour whisked wedding planners, mommy, food and Pittsburgh bloggers, via the brand-new Chevy Sonic and Cruze, between three of the sweetest bakeries in the Steel City – Sugar Café, Dozen Bake Shop and Gluuteny Bakery.

Those in attendance included Burgh Baby, That’s Church, WeddObsessed, IheartPGH, Cooking for My Dad, This Man’s Kitchen, Vanilla Icing, My Last Nerve, Weddings at the Mansion and Trends to Traditions. We were also happy to welcome one very special guest…..a local bride-to-be joined us as well! We have a feeling this tour may have given her more than a few ideas for her own wedding.

After a brief overview of the Sonic by our Chevrolet product expert, we got down to business and made our first stop on the Sonic Sweets Tour at Sugar Café in Dormont. Sugar Cafe owner and sweet treat makin’ machine Kelly James served up samples of the bakery’s renowned lemon pound cake, as well as its specialty Irish car bomb cupcakes and macaroons. Everyone was a huge fan, especially of the lemon pound cake!

We hopped in the Sonic and Cruze and headed over to Lawrenceville. Our guests were able to drive the vehicles themselves to really get the full experience. Trends to Traditions wedding planners enjoyed the roominess and smooth ride of the Sonic while en route to our second location, Dozen Bake Shop. The shop recently reopened under the direction of new owner Doreen Valentine. On the menu for our tour – mini cupcakes in fun flavors like caramel corn, ginger-lemon, milk chocolate and vanilla, plus homemade caramel apple pop-tarts, pumpkin gobs and cupcake pushup pops.

Our sugary bliss was beginning to transition into a welcomed sugar coma, but we were all eager to check out our last destination for the day, Gluuteny Bakery in Squirrel Hill, which specializes in all gluten-free and casein-free treats. Our taste testing at Gluuteny included pumpkin cupcakes with cream cheese frosting, their biggest seller classic brownies and last, but not certainly not least, a Chevy Sonic themed white almond cake with vanilla buttercream icing and raspberry filing… wow!

We’ve come to the conclusion this was by far the best day ever! Sweets rides, sweets treats and hanging out in the Burgh.

You can check out some of our bloggers’ recaps on the crawl below – more to come soon!

Thanks again to everyone who participated and Sugar Café, Dozen Bake Shop and Gluuteny Bakery for hosting us.
