In honor of Military Appreciation Month, the Northeast team would like to spotlight GM’s military heritage of providing branches with the most reliable military vehicles.  From World War II to the present, GM has helped deployed men and women proudly serve their country.

In World War II GM produced the GMC Jimmy 6wd for deployment in both theaters.  This 2.5 ton cargo truck helped supply troops throughout the war and could be fitted with a mounted machine gun for combat.  Aside from carrying cargo, the “duece and a half” could be used as a bomb service truck, dental operating truck, and a number of other military aids, making it truly indispensable.

GM even helped play a crucial role in the storming of Normandy.  From cargo to troop carriers it aided the Allied Troops in their assault. In the picture below you can see American GI’s using the Jimmy to clear rubble.
