Manhattan can be an extraordinarily frustrating place, what with the vertical living and constant bustle individuals in suits.  Don’t you ever wish there was a close place where wine is vinted, and the troubles of yesterday melt away?  So did NY City Mama Carol Cain, and that’s why we lent her and her friend Laurie a Chevrolet Equinox so they could venture to the Finger Lakes for a weekend of pure relaxation.

5 Hours out of New York, Carol and her compatriot wined and dined their way across the Finger Lakes, enjoying all that the region has to offer.  Her post is an unofficial guide to the Finger Lakes that is a must read for anyone interested in a weekend getaway.  Here are three great places to check out in the Finger Lakes:

What to see- New York’s history is steeped in Native American culture; hundreds of indigenous tribes used to call it home.  This particular area was home to the Seneca’s a peaceful tribe that still has a large presence in the Finger Lakes.  Visitors to Victor New York can admire artifacts as well as the 17th-century Bark Longhouse.

Where to eat- Hate your Manhattan “kitchenette” and love the feeling of a full kitchen with more than one burner?  Enjoy a cooking class at New York wine and Country Center.  Carol and Laurie dined on a feast of locally sourced food after with the help of their talented chefs.
